What a motorized retractable screen actually is
A motorized retractable screen is a mesh panel that rolls out of a slim aluminium cassette mounted at the top of an opening - a porch bay, a patio side, a garage door, a pergola edge. A tube motor lowers it down side tracks and holds it under tension so it does not flap. Raise it and the whole thing rolls back into the housing, so nine months of the year you barely notice it is there.
That is the difference between a screen and a fixed enclosure. You are not building a room you have to look at all winter. You are adding a wall you can call for on a July evening and forget about in October.
Why so many Burlington and Camden County homes are a good fit
Three things about this corridor drive the demand we see:
Mosquitoes off the Delaware and the Rancocas. Riverton, Delanco, Beverly, Palmyra, Edgewater Park and Rancocas all sit close to slow water. Evening on the patio in July is when the screens earn their keep, and it is the single most common reason homeowners here call us.

What the install looks like
1. On-site measure (about 45 minutes). We measure each opening, check the header for a mounting surface, look at where the power comes from, and talk through mesh options against the direction the patio faces.
2. Fixed quote. Written, per opening, so you can add or drop bays before ordering.
3. Installation. Most jobs are a single day: mount the cassette and side tracks, run the motor circuit, programme the remote, test the travel and tension, and walk you through it.
4. Aftercare. Rinse the mesh a couple of times a season, keep the side tracks clear of leaves and grit, and have the motor checked once a year. That is the whole maintenance list.
Do you need a permit?
For a screen mounted into an existing covered structure, usually not — but it depends on your township, and it changes if we have to build a header or posts, or run a new electrical circuit. We confirm the requirement with your township before ordering and handle the paperwork where one applies. Historic-district homes in Riverton, Collingswood and Bordentown sometimes have extra review, which we plan for at the quote stage.

FAQ Section
Do motorized retractable screens keep mosquitoes out?
Yes. Standard insect mesh with side tracks and a bottom bar seals the opening on all four edges, which is what stops mosquitoes getting around the panel. That edge seal is the difference between a retractable screen and a curtain of mesh.
Can I install screens on an open patio with no roof?
Not on their own — the cassette needs something overhead to mount to. On an open patio you would add a pergola or awning first, then screen the sides.
What happens in wind?
Screens are designed to be raised in high wind, and we can fit a wind sensor that retracts them automatically. The side tracks hold the mesh through normal breezes without flapping.
Can they be left down through winter?
We do not recommend it. Retract them for the winter - that is the point of a retractable system, and it is what keeps the mesh and motor lasting.
Do they work with Alexa or Google Home?
Most systems we install can be integrated with home automation, usually through a hub. Tell us at the quote stage so we specify the right motor and controls up front.
How wide can a single screen be?
Wide spans are possible, but past a certain width it is better to split the opening into two screens for tension and motor life. We work that out from the measurements on site.
Is it cheaper to do several openings at once?
Yes. Most of the cost of a visit is mobilisation and electrical, so two or three bays on the same job cost less per bay than coming back later.
Will they block my view?
Insect mesh and light solar mesh keep the view out almost fully; privacy mesh deliberately does not. Choose per side depending on what each one faces.
How long do they last?
The aluminium housing and tracks are built for outdoor use, and the motor is the wearing part. Keep the tracks clean and retract in storms and you are looking at many seasons of use.
